What’s Not Included

  • ✗New prescriptions for medications that have not been reviewed by a GP.
  • ✗Controlled or restricted substances, including opioids, benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, and ADHD medications.

  • ✗Pharmacy dispensing costs or additional third-party charges.
  • ✗Requests for children without parent/guardian consent (if applicable).

Important Notes

  • In some cases, your GP may suggest scheduling a follow-up video consultation if they feel a more detailed assessment is needed before confirming your prescription or treatment plan.
  • Please note that certain medications cannot be prescribed online, including those requiring close supervision or classified as controlled substances such as opioid-based pain relief, sedatives, sleep aids, and ADHD treatments.
  • All prescriptions are issued at the GP’s discretion, based on clinical judgment and your medical history.

Once you submit your request, an Irish-registered GP reviews your medical history and prescription details. If the renewal is clinically suitable, your prescription will be securely sent to your chosen pharmacy in Ireland for collection.
Can I renew any type of prescription online?
You can renew most ongoing or repeat prescriptions through this service. However, controlled or restricted medications such as opioids, sedatives, and ADHD treatments cannot be prescribed online for safety reasons.
How long does it take to receive my prescription?
Most prescription renewals are processed the same day, depending on the time of your request and clinical review. You’ll be notified once your GP has issued the prescription to your selected pharmacy.
Will my doctor review my medication before issuing a refill?
Yes. Every request is individually reviewed by a licensed Irish GP. They’ll assess your condition, dosage, and treatment progress to ensure it’s safe and appropriate to continue.
Can I request a new medication through this service?
This service is intended for ongoing or repeat prescriptions. For new medications or changes to your treatment, your GP may recommend a video consultation to discuss your condition in more detail.
Are there any additional fees for my prescription?
Your consultation fee covers the GP review and prescription issuance. However, pharmacy dispensing fees or medication costs are not included and vary by pharmacy.
What if my GP declines my request?
If your GP determines that a renewal isn’t suitable, they’ll contact you with a reason and may recommend booking a video or phone consultation for further assessment.
What should I do in case of an urgent or emergency medication need?
If you have an emergency or run out of essential medication, contact your local pharmacy or call 112 or 999 immediately. Online consultations are not suitable for urgent or life-threatening situations.
